Deal with it.

I'm not happy, I'm cheerful. There's a difference. A happy woman has no cares at all. A cheerful woman has cares but has learned how to deal with them.

Beverly Sills (1929-) American Opera Singer

We all cope. Some days we cope more effectively than others. Without our coping we would die--truly!

How do you deal?

Food? Alcohol? Rage?

Exercise? Prayer? Meditation?

I have two favorites.

One is writing. I have a journal where I spill my guts. God forbid that anyone should ever find it when I am gone--or now for that matter! You would not believe the whining and growling and mewling and puking I can put forth.

The other is talking to someone who loves me. Having a witness for my pain and an audience for my words is healing. Getting "it" outside myself helps.

Then there's music...and laughter.

How do you cope? Please, share with us. I'd love to hear.

Thanks. It's good to be back. How did you deal with my absence?

I hesitate to tell you. You may think I'm silly, but it works.

SMILE. Yup. That's it. Try smilin' at everyone you see for a whole day, no matter what's goin' on in your life, and tell me you don't notice a difference.

I've started keepin' a smile diary. You'd be surprised ...

Ah HA! I love it. Smile on, my friend. Smile on. It does make a difference. I was driving along today. Got into a traffic jam.

The woman driving the car next to me was wearing a head covering particular to her faith, munching on sunflower seeds. I was wearing my sunglasses and a sweatshirt with an orangutan on the front, just having come from a massage. We smiled at each other. It sure beat becoming gnarly like the traffic.

And smiles don't cost a darn thing. Imagine that.

Thanks for stopping by. I love the journal idea.

Wanda, when are you coming back? I miss you. (If I sound a little whiny, please forgive. You've been gone so long.) But I'm smiling, like Gabby says. Love your orangutang sweatshirt and sunflower seed story. : )

Hi Grace--

Your whining is forgiven. I have been over here coping. Lots going on in my life. Being a full time care giver at the moment. I'll be back as soon as I can. Thanks for caring.

Good Morning Wanda,
Are you writing somewhere else now? I check in with this blog occasionally, and I think I need an update.
This is an amazing year for me to purge and recycle! What a way to start the New Year.
Wishing you well.
