Gandhi quote

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy.

A beautiful quote and reminder, Wanda. Thank you.

This reminds me of the story of the Vietnamese Buddhist monk on a crowded refugee boat.

A man raped a young woman on the boat, and the weary people so feared him for his girth and fierceness that no one tried to stop him. Then he killed someone and threatened several others.

The monk, a man of peace who had worked tirelessly against the war and killing of any kind, stepped up to the much larger man, quickly killed him and dumped his body overboard.

The people, astonished that the gentle monk could have done such a thing, asked him why he would risk his life and soul for the evil man, even to protect the rest of them.

The monk replied that he could no longer bear to allow the rapist-murderer to continue to accrue so much bad karma. The monk felt it better that he himself suffer a lifetime of bad karma for having killed their persecutor, than that the man should incur even more for himself.
